PALS Course Description

In order to take a PALS Provider course you must be a health care provider whose daily occupation or volunteer activities demand proficiency in the knowledge and skills of PALS.  In addition, you must have successfully completed a BLS for Health Care Provider (C) course in accordance with current guidelines and be actively using BLS skills on a regular basis.

The Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider course provides a foundational knowledge of theory and resuscitation modalities necessary to stabilize the critically ill and/or injured pediatric patient.  It teaches health care providers to recognize the inidcating factors for infants and children at risk of cardiopulmonary arrest, to help learn the strategies in preventing arrests in infants and children and to provide skills to safely and effectively apply the cognitive and psychomotor skills for resuscitating and stabilizing infants and children in respiratory failure, shock or cardiopulmonary arrest.  A strong emphasis is placed on bag-valve mask ventilation, management of airway, defibrillation and cardioversion, use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) for children older than 1 year, and rhythm management.

Approximate length of course: 14 hours
